Trying to start a family or becoming a parent can feel very different than you expected.
You may have imagined feeling hopeful, connected, or naturally at ease and instead find yourself feeling anxious, discouraged, or not quite like yourself.
Whether you’re trying to conceive, navigating pregnancy, or adjusting to life with a new baby, this phase can bring a wide range of emotions that are often hard to talk about. At the same time, you may feel pressure to stay positive or to “enjoy every moment,” making it even harder to acknowledge what you’re actually experiencing.
You might be noticing:
Increased anxiety or constant worry
Feeling more emotional, irritable, rage or overwhelmed
Difficulty sleeping or relaxing
A sense of disconnection from yourself, your body, or your partner
Loss of confidence or feeling unsure of yourself
Stress, uncertainty, or disappointment while trying to conceive
These experiences are more common than people talk about and they don’t mean something is wrong with you.
This transition whether you’re trying to grow your family or adjusting to a new role can affect your body, your identity, your relationships, and your sense of stability all at once.
In our work together, we first focus on helping you feel more stable and supported, and then begin to make sense of what you’re going through.
My work at the MOMS Program at El Camino Hospital has given me specialized experience in the perinatal period and a deeper understanding of the emotional complexities that can come with it.
I work with:
Individuals trying to conceive
Pregnant individuals
